“Validity of Arbitration Agreements under Laws of Foreign Jurisdiction” written by our senior partner Mr. Huang Hui and associate Mr. Liu Youhua won the second prize of the “2018 Guangzhou Maritime Law Forum” Best Paper Award

The “2018 Guangzhou Maritime Law Forum” was held in Guangzhou Maritime Court on 4th November 2018. It was jointly hosted by Guangzhou Institute of International Shipping Law, Guangdong Lawyers Association, Guangzhou Lawyers Association and the Maritime Law Committee of China National Lawyers Association, with the support of Guangzhou Bureau of Justice and under the guidance of the Guangzhou International Maritime Justice Research Base of the Supreme People’s Court. Over 300 maritime law scholars, judges, lawyers and representatives of leading shipping and insurance companies from China, Japan, South Korea and the UK gathered together at the Forum to have an in-depth discussion on frontier issues in international maritime law.
 

Also in attendance at the Forum were Mr. Zhong Jianping, Executive Vice President of the Higher People’s Court of Guangdong Province, Mr. Liao Ronghui, Director of Guangzhou Bureau of Justice, Mr. Ye Liudong, President of Guangzhou Maritime Court, and Mr. Tong Xin, Deputy Director of Guangdong Lawyers Association.

Guangzhou Maritime Judges Association and Guangzhou Lawyers Association set up the “2018 Guangzhou Maritime Law Forum” Best Paper Award and solicited submission of high-quality theme papers from academia, legal practice and the judiciary. The winners were announced and awarded at the Forum on 4th November. The paper entitled “ Validity of Arbitration Agreements under Laws of Foreign Jurisdiction” written by our senior partner Mr. Huang Hui and associate Mr. Liu Youhua won the second prize of the Best Paper Award.

Mr. Huang Hui gave a keynote speech at the Forum on the validity of arbitration agreements under the laws of foreign jurisdiction in combination with court cases handled by Huang & Huang in recent years with regards to the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in China, as a contribution to theme discussion surrounding the revision of China’s maritime law, major legal issues related to the construction of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan District and Guangzhou International Shipping Centre, the liability exposures of port and shipping businesses “going out to capture belt and road opportunities”.
