On 9th February 2009, Guangdong Zhong Run Treel Co., Ltd consigned 1731.25 tons of wire rods valuing at CNY6, 426,000 to the vessel “Changhai 178” owned by the defendant, Fujian Changle Shipping Corporation, for carriage from the loading port Jieyang to the destination port Qinzhou. At 0000 hour on February 13, 2009, the aforesaid goods sank along with the vessel “Changhai 178” near Hailing Island of Yangjiang of Guangdong Province en route of the shipment. The incident caused Guangdong Zhong Run Treel Co., Ltd an economic loss of CNY6, 000, 000. (about US$882,353.00). The coverage of the goods was insured by PICC Property and Casualty Company Limited, Jieyang Branch. Our law firm handled the case under the entrustment of the insurer.
On 12th June 2009, the plaintiff, Guangdong Zhong Run Treel Co., Ltd lodged the lawsuit case before Guangzhou Maritime Court (Case No: (2009) Guang Hai Fa Chu Zi No. 332), requiring the defendant Fujian Changle Shipping Corporation to compensate an amount of CNY6 millions for loss of the goods resulted from sinking of the vessel “Changhai 178”. The case is under handling of our law firm on and on behalf of the cargo receiver and its underwriters.
