On 24th September 2009, a submarine cable owned by a Guangzhou division of the PLA was hit and damaged when a tug and a barge were engaging in towing operations there in the Qiongzhou Strait. The ships together with the high-end equipment onboard were arrested as a result of an application filed by the army who claimed for a huge amount.
Negotiation with the army was extremely tough because of its usual status. Nevertheless, by making a effective use of all available legal means and with the mediation of the court, our lawyers managed to compel the army to reduce its claim amount from the initial RMB3.6 billion to RMB0.5 billion and further to RMB70 million, and finally to the lowest RMB9.75 million as a full and final settlement.
