On 5 September 2020, judges, law practitioners, arbitrators, mediators, experts and scholars from the legal community gathered at Zhujiang Hotel in Guangzhou to witness the official establishment of Guangzhou International Commercial Mediation Center. Mr. Liao Ronghui - director of Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice, Mr. Su Xiaopeng - mayor of Baiyun District, Mr. Jiang Yaoting - vice president of Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court, Wang Fujun - director of Guangzhou Social Organizations Administration, Mr. Shi Lei, deputy director of China Guangzhou Arbitration Commission were among the attendees at the inauguration ceremony.

At the ceremony, Guangzhou International Commercial Mediation Center announced the appointment of five members to its Expert Advisory Committee and its first group of certified mediators consisting of 48 law practitioners who are leading international lawyers in Guangzhou or heads of certified Law-firm Mediation Workrooms.

Our director Mr. Huang Hui, who is one of Guangzhou’s Top 10 International Lawyers and a member of China’s Top 1000 International Lawyers recommended by the Ministry of Justice of China and Leading International Lawyers of Guangdong Province, is among the first groups of mediators announced at the ceremony.

In light of the positioning of Guangzhou in the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the requirements of the Implementation Plan for Guangzhou to Comprehensively Enhance its Function as an International Trade and Commerce Center (2020-2022), Guangzhou is set to become an international consumption city, global trade hub, international exhibition capital and international trade and commerce service center with strong international influence and radiation. As such, Guangzhou International Commercial Mediation Center has come into existence in view of an important need to establish a cross-border and cross-domain international commercial dispute resolution mechanism to support such development.
