In May 2003, a vessel carried more than 60,000 tons of Soya Beans from Argentine bound for Chiwan Port, China. After the ship’s arrival at Chiwan Port, it was discovered during discharging that there were false sorghum seeds and other noxious material mixed in the Soya beans. The consignee consequently lodged claim against the owner of the vessel in the amount of USD 600,000.00. Our Mr. Huang Yaquan handled this case on behalf of the ship owner and its P & I Club. This case had been closed with a payment of USD 210,000 to the cargo receivers through negotiation with the claimant in the course of the trial of second instance court.
